The unit has few hours on the cell, but could use some love and care.
Bernard from Qualiflight took care of the purchase inspection, and has already started the refurbishment and upgrades in the meantime. The engine, originally purchased for our OO-CIR, is going to our new aircraft. The OO-GAQ.
Two planes and two sons… Remco from EHMZ knows our two all too well. He had the nefarious idea: change call signs! GAQ will become OO-RIF (our youngest, Rif) and the CIR will eventually become 00-WLF (our Wolf)
But most importantly, we will have double capacity aircraft rentals for YOUR adventures starting in February!
For our blog, we are looking for new airports, linked to beautiful places. There may already be a little more challenge than a 1,200-meter asphalt runway, right?
For pilots with a little more experience, EDRM, Traben-Trarbach is a “must visit.”
With good flight preparation (don’t forget PPR), this airport is a fun destination!

The circuit can be flown either LH or RH. For landing (upslope) I chose LH 36, and for departure LH 18, which worked fine. This worked fine. The airfield is on a plateau 903ft, surrounded by low mountains of +/-1,500ft.
We performed a go-around on the first approach. Be well prepared for this procedure, and make a decision early. The grass course is slightly uphill (12 meters), and there is a line of trees at the end. Check Google Earth!
Finding a cab was quick. It was a short, affordable ride into town.

The town of Granville is easiest to reach by cab (reserve in advance if necessary during the summer season).
The Chausey Islands group is accessible by a small ferry from Granville. Definitely worth a day trip in good weather!
As a GA pilot in France, it is best to speak a little French. Small airports are usually “French only” and often only “air to air” communication. We called ahead of time, and runway 24 was in use. Handy to be briefed in advance!

July 22, 2025: Flight from EGJA (Alderney) to LFRT (Saint Brieuc Armor).
This flight is all about “customs”: the mandatory paperwork to get back off the islands.
Actually, our preference is to fly directly to EHMZ because then all documents only need to be submitted 2 hours(!) in advance. Useful in questionable weather.
Our next destination is LFEA, Belle Ile. So we do have to go through French customs.
In France, customs expects your arrival on time at the specified airport according to your declaration.
How did we work?
1) of course, the 2-year ETA must be in order.
2) first completed the GAR online for Alderney (this must be in order at least 2 h before departure)

3) send a mail with all the details to the French customs who will be waiting for you at the airport of arrival. For France, I have not found a standard form.
For Saint Brieuc Armor, this email address was:
bse-saint-brieuc@douane.finances.gouv.fr
These mail addresses can be found in the AIP by airport.
Note: The mail to French customs must be sent at least 24h in advance for arrival on weekdays, and 48h in advance for weekend days.
Response to mail can take a long time. In our case, sent in the morning and only received a reply around 5 pm.
Because of potentially questionable weather, we chose the closest airport, on the itinerary.
We were 15 minutes ahead of schedule and customs was already there.
Note: There is free air traffic between Alderney and Guernsey (only limited flight plan required). Flights from these two islands to Jersey, Isle of Wight or UK always require a completed GAR! (See link above)

There was a brisk breeze on the way and our Cessna was able to sleep inside, only at £13/night. (If you ask for nothing you get nothing (-; )

Customs formalities are very easy via gendec.eu and an additional document for Guernsey/Alderney. On Guernsey, ASG https://flyasg.co.uk/ provides smooth, friendly handling. No fear of expensive bills here! Landing and 5 nights +/- £100 and avgas 100LL costs only £1.15/liter here, or some sloppy €1.3/liter!
From EGJB you can fly to EGJA (Alderney) without customs documents, though a flight plan is required.
Flights from EGJB and EGJA to Jersey, UK or France do require customs documents to be sent!
